The EUTOPIA Student Think Tank (EUSTT) is a platform for giving voice to European students’ shared knowledge. Its aim is to empower students from Bachelor’s to PhD by publishing their research and organising student-led events in a collaborative, diverse, and inclusive environment. As the main EUTOPIA Alliance student organisation, EUSTT works to foster the role of students in decision-making and their profile within their communities. Building bridges across disciplines is at the heart of their activity because complex problems require complex solutions.

The event’s goal is to give voice to students on topics of importance related to sustainability and the environment. From the point of view of EUTOPIA students, we will be analysing the role of Europe –its society, institutions and economy– and the role of universities in this critical moment for the planet’s future. The aim of the event is to educate and foster a public data-based and ambitious discussion on sustainability, as the next generation is the key to avoiding the worst consequences of climate change and saving the planet.

Technology Park Ljubljana was established in 1996 as an organization representing a support and stimulating business environment enabling the development of technological entrepreneurship of the highest level. By providing appropriate infrastructure, services and promotion, it motivates the technological entrepreneurial potential in the Ljubljana region and helps realize knowledge-based startups. At the same time, it allows alliances and synergies to be established with both the domestic and foreign developmental, research and market environment. 

Special emphasis will be put on the Park’s XR laboratory, where the attendees will learn more about this breakthrough technology. The XR laboratory of the Ljubljana Technology Park is dedicated to the development and presentation of virtual and augmented reality technologies. Through various projects and meetings of the XR community, it encourages startups and supports solutions in the fields of Metaverse, NFTs, Web3.0 and Blockchain. 

This 1,5-hour walking sightseeing tour is focused on the work done by Jože Plečnik (1872 – 1957), a native and lifelong resident of Ljubljana, who is considered to be one of the world's most important pioneers of modern architecture. His creative opus had a significant impact not only on Ljubljana, but two other Central European cities as well such as Prague and Vienna.

The professional tour guide will take you on a pleasant walk through Šance at the Ljubljana Castle hill to Plečnik House on the Karunova street in the Trnovo district. One of the peaks is visiting the National and University Library (NUK), which just might be Plečnik’s most significant work in Slovenia. The tour ends in the renovated Plečnik House, where the architect lived and birthed the idea of Plečnik's Ljubljana. The house displays the architect's home with all original interior and exterior equipment and a permanent museum exhibition.

A culture of trust has long shown to have many benefits for organisations, economies, governments, and for facilitating collective action in general. Any signs of distrust are, therefore, a matter of serious concern. However, trusting without maintaining a critical stance toward the same matter of subject, may also signal erroneous judgements reflecting cultural biases, poor cognitive skills, and information echo chambers. These conclusions draw on new evidence from the European Values Survey/World Values Survey conducted among over 650,000 respondents in more than 100 societies over four decades. 

This lecture, led by one of the leading global scholars in social/political science today, will address the topic of trust, specifically trusting in institutions of state and science. Amidst the alarming decline in public trust in these institutions, Pippa Norris's visit is timely, and a deeply needed intervention into the debate. The lecture will be followed by a discussion about this same topic. Prof. dr. Norris will be joined by moderators prof. dr. Ksenija Vidmar Horvat (Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana) and assoc. prof. dr. Mojca Pajnik (Faculty of Social Science, University of Ljubljana). 

The Science Slam will display ten posters made by young researchers, pursuing a PhD or post-doctoral research from all over EUTOPIA. The main aim was for researchers to find an innovative way of showcasing their research findings to a wider public. The posters will offer insights into many different academic fields, presented in a public-friendly way. 

All partner universities were invited to participate in the Science Fair by sending in five research posters, abstracts and video-presentations. From this collection of submissions, ten in total were selected to take part in the Science Slam. The ten selected researchers will present their research posters in a five-minute pitch format to the public during EUTOPIA Week in Ljubljana. The Science Slam will be a fun and innovative way of learning about science and research, bringing it closer to audiences of all ages, knowledge and interests!

Building on the EUTOPIA Alliance's commitment to openness and inclusion, the EUTOPIA Knowledge Bazaar aims to foster a community of curiosity and active involvement by presenting research outcomes through innovative means. The Knowledge Bazaar is thus a virtual space where ideas take shape. An evocative meeting point for art and science. A marketplace of knowledge open to society and devoted to exhibiting the results of research carried out by the six original member universities of EUTOPIA. During EUTOPIA Week in Ljubljana, you will have an opportunity to check out the exhibition of video-presentations made by students from last year’s Knowledge Bazaar.

As part of the Open Innovation Challenge, students from the University of Ljubljana worked on a project called "Designing solutions for patients with multiple sclerosis", for which they developed practical devices to make life easier for MS patients. Easier preparation of meals, carrying of loads, intimate care and personalized jewellery are just a few of the ideas developed by students of industrial design, medicine, mechanical engineering, cognitive science, sociology and architecture. An important part of this project was interdisciplinary and trans-sectoral cooperation as shown by the students. Their ideas and devices will be presented at this exhibition.
 
The project was coordinated by the Vice-Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana (UL ALUO), Assoc. Prof. Barbara Predan, and supervised by Assoc. Prof. Lidija Pritržnik and Prof. Jure Miklavc (both also from UL ALUO). The project also involved the 'Get to Know Multiple Sclerosis' association and the pharmaceutical company Roche.
 
While the presented products and services are still at the concept stage and not yet ready for sale on the market, all the participants wish for the project to continue and that these solutions will one day contribute to inclusive designs that can benefit everyone, not only people affected by multiple sclerosis.

A central exhibition of the Plečnik Year 2022 sheds light on Plečnik’s architectural oeuvre and unveils numerous innovative ideas and techniques, which this multifaceted artist used in his diverse fields of creative work. The exhibition offers an opportunity for a reflection on Plečnik’s ideas and an artistic view of them in the 21st century.

The exhibition, with which we are commemorating the 150th anniversary of the architect’s birth, presents Plečnik’s realised and unrealised projects, notes, sketches, plans, models, and sculptures. With selection of materials, it wants to map out Plečnik’s conceived space, created during a time of radical political changes, within the frame of three metaphors – metropolis, place, garden. 

Concepts that are, to a degree, connected with Vienna, Prague, and Ljubljana, but not fully. If we were to limit Plečnik’s work to the physical space of cities, we would miss his thought, which constantly interlaced all three experiences within his superlative architecture.
