This lecture will highlight a proposed framework for developing a concept of sustainable development of the University of Ljubljana. The framework is based on a three-year long pilot project, which started at University of Ljubljana recently with the aim of renewing its curricula by integrating green deal objectives, sustainable development goals and digitalisation. As part of these efforts, University of Ljubljana wishes to develop its own strategy for sustainable development moving forward. During the discussion other EUTOPIA Alliance university members will be welcome to share ideas, experiences and suggestions on establishing and fostering a sustainability development framework. 

International Scientific Symposium will celebrate the relocation of the Academy of Music, UL from the Stiška Manor to the renovated premises of the Kazina Palace, Ljubljana, Slovenia. The symposium will focus on artistic research in various musical disciplines and will be linked with scientific research in the field of music education and related scientific disciplines. The symposium will present papers that address current topics in the musical arts and music education which relate to the music and artistic research as a whole. It will  explore their interdisciplinary connections, as well as a connection to music and general education, lifelong learning, various forms of non-formal learning and musical engagement. Artists, scholars and experts from various fields of music, music education and related fields will all be invited to participate in the symposium. The symposium title is also linked to the preparations for the implementation of the new PhD programme in Arts at University of Ljubljana, which is in the process of being accredited. 

This workshop will be led by dr. Nina Gorenc, Lector of English and Italian language at the Faculty of Social Sciences, and will serve to deepen the knowledge and understanding of multilingualism. 

The main part of the workshop will be done interactively. Firstly, dr. Gorenc will provide a short theoretic introduction into multilingualism. No matter your pre-existing knowledge on the topic, you will learn new concepts, ideas and communication strategies tied to multilingualism and its many forms. Special emphasis will be placed on the importance of intercultural competences, one of the main benefits stemming from multilingualism. Dr. Gorenc will lead the group of students through various practical elements of interactive games and fun group challenges. Through this experiential approach, the students will truly learn about what are the good practices and benefits of multilingualism in education and work environments.

The second part of the workshop will be devoted to developing a campaign for promoting multilingualism to their peers in academia and beyond. After taking part in this workshop, students will truly understand the meaning of Ludwig Wittgenstein’s idea: “The limits of my language means the limits of my world.” Not only that, but they will hopefully be encouraged to surpass these limits and provide concrete opportunities and actions to do so. 

During this interactive lecture, you will learn some unsettling truths about the traces our digital lives leave on the Internet. Focusing on cyber safety and its potential to create a sustainable growth towards a greener and more digital future, you will learn more about what is truly at stake when talking about (the lack of) cybersecurity in today's world. Assist. prof. dr. Urban Sedlar will shed more light on why embracing the importance of cybersecurity calls for an interdisciplinary approach, where actions from every single one of us matter. The presentation will be followed by a short demonstration of the early stages of a cyberattack from the perspective of the attacker. Finally, you will get the chance to observe what is truly happening on the internet during a cyberattack, on a live attack observation platform. 

Growing food in urban areas is more popular than ever, and it has every reason to be. Although this type of agriculture has its challenges, it offers many benefits, such as greater food security and aiding development of sustainable and resilient food supply chains in urban settlements and suburbs, thus contributing to more successful nutrient cycles and circular economy. Research shows that cities have great potential to improve self-sufficiency in city-grown food while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

It is now undeniable that traditional forms of urban food productions have a strong impact on the social, educational, spiritual, and recreational spheres of one's life, as well as positive effects on the environment. Along with their broader positive social and environmental role, they will continue to positively impact urban areas in the future. However, this form of food production will not be able to meet the needs and challenges of a rapidly growing urban population. Therefore, there is a growing need for new, innovative forms of plant cultivation, based on technologically modern, highly productive, safe, and more ecologically and spatially efficient forms of urban agriculture. 

This walking tour paints a picture of Ljubljana through the lens of its Communist past and Capitalist present. The influence of the former is still present in today's economic system, and it manifests in the minds of many Slovenians as Yugonostalgia, a longing for the way things once were under Yugoslavia’s reign. The tour guide will provide an in-depth explanation about this clash between communism and capitalism and the fruitful consequences it has for Slovenia today. Josip Broz Tito's pivotal role will be further explained, as well as showcasing examples of Yugonostalgia, brutalist architecture, communist monuments, cult of personality, art censorship and a secret police jail.  

Dive into a deeper understanding of Ljubljana's accepting and open-minded culture with this LGBT tour. You can expect to learn more about the pre-socialist and socialist struggles lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals, and queer persons have had to endure, as well as getting a better understanding of where they stand today. The guide will explain the oppressing past tinted with discrimination and unjust treatment of LGBTQIA+ people and their fight for their rights. A brighter perspective stands out today, with much work still needed to be done for the LGBTQIA+ community. The guide will also take you to LGBTQIA+ friendly clubs and cafés. The tour begins at Stari trg 34, by the Hercules fountain. 

The ambition of the EUTOPIA Young Leaders Academy (YLA) is to support research exchanges between high-potential, early to mid-career researchers from all EUTOPIA partner universities and support their career development. Members of the EUTOPIA Young Leaders Academy constitute a community of promising independent research leaders at the scale of EUTOPIA, sharing and promoting European values and the EUTOPIA vision of an interconnected academic environment. 

This event, organised within the EUTOPIA Young Leaders Academy activities, examines the idea of academic work-life balance with a special emphasis on its relationship to sustainability. Sustainable work-life balance is increasingly pointed out as an important modern-day challenge across all labour sectors, and academia is no exception. The symposium will take on an interactive form. First, the invited experts will contextualise the issue with the latest empirical and theoretical findings and provide their own insights on the topic. A round table will follow, inviting the speakers to engage with their own practice-based reflections on work-life balance, shared by YLA members from different disciplines. 

The panel will be dedicated to the recently started revamp of the professionally oriented first-cycle programs at the University of Ljubljana focused on lifelong learning, green and digital transition, and the concept of Society 5.0. We will present two such projects, one based at and the other one coordinated by the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. The project Digital engineering: Basic competences for green technologies will reform the Practical Mathematics program and the Applied Physics program at the Faculty, further enhancing their applied character both through modernized curricula and student-centered educational approaches as well as through new facilities such as the Open Laboratory for Applied Mathematics. The aim of the interdisciplinary project Environmental technologies for mitigation of and adaptation to climate changes jointly carried out by several faculties is focused on simultaneously introducing a range of environmental topics into multiple study programs at the University. The objective of this project is to promote and develop interdisciplinary knowledge on environmental technologies by introducing a multidisciplinary faculty course package, by establishing a dedicated open laboratory, and by developing education schemes focused on environmental topics. 

Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, University of Ljubljana, proudly presents short films made by their students. The films will be displayed with English subtitles.  

This 1,5-hour walking tour offers a mischievous outlook on Ljubljana’s history. It offers a glimpse into a wicked Ljubljana through its ancient, medieval, and finally a modern era. This tour is led by a Slovene historian Boštjan Plut, who is full of amusing stories about life in Ljubljana throughout history. He will speak of the time when drinking wine was safer than drinking water in Ljubljana and other shocking, yet intriguing fun facts and anecdotes about Ljubljana’s past, all while explaining more about geopolitical and societal contexts at the time. Wicked tour paints a picture of Ljubljana so bizarre, one can’t help but get invested. The tour guide will take you to a street once declared as the smelliest street in Ljubljana, tell stories about the oldest legal brother in Ljubljana and give examples of funnily innovative yet questionable ways of resuscitation. You will hear stories about torture devices, prison-inmates-turned-cleaners, a mysterious cure for hypochondria, and ways of resourceful drunkards. These are but a few facts of Ljubljana’s past devilries, you won’t find in any history book.

Join us for this guided tour of the work made by students of Academy of Fine Arts and Design (University of Ljubljana). The exhibition will take place in Mala Galerija. There will be two guided tours, one at 16:00 and the other at 16:30, both lasting for apoproximately 30 minutes.

The exhibition is a place through which we can enter the creative process. As wrong as it may sound, in the wrong order, exhibiting a work in reverse exposes conditions as conditions, procedures as procedures, form and content as form and content.

The terms of the creative process are unstable until they are organised into an inner and an outer field by the act of exhibiting; creation is defined through the difference between, for example, studio conception and public presentation. More precisely, the difference is already made with a second glance, with the notion that there is an external point of view to which the work will be subjected. The view from the outside, that of the alien subject, is of a subversive nature, it operates through a double phantasm: it takes away the authenticity of the work and gives it meaning.

The creative process is thus articulated through a dialectic driven backwards and forwards by the external field. The performance, the exposure, the separation from the creator, the public exposure demystifies the process and rewrites it in a readable linear order. Creation can be followed from point to point, landmarks of meaning are established, directions of urgency are set. At the same time, the linear transcription inevitably becomes entangled, knotted and cyclically twisted back to the starting point. Which fascinates us. In relation to the addressee, the exhibition does not change function; it cuts equally into the meat of creation for lay viewers, the profession and the creators. It imposes itself on all as a manifest thought, a present absence.

Reflection is the result of an exploration of ways of establishing a dialogue through and with the exhibition, a dialogue between them, us, you and everything that has accumulated in between.

Building on the EUTOPIA Alliance's commitment to openness and inclusion, the EUTOPIA Knowledge Bazaar aims to foster a community of curiosity and active involvement by presenting research outcomes through innovative means. The Knowledge Bazaar is thus a virtual space where ideas take shape. An evocative meeting point for art and science. A marketplace of knowledge open to society and devoted to exhibiting the results of research carried out by the six original member universities of EUTOPIA. During EUTOPIA Week in Ljubljana, you will have an opportunity to check out the exhibition of video-presentations made by students from last year’s Knowledge Bazaar.

As part of the Open Innovation Challenge, students from the University of Ljubljana worked on a project called "Designing solutions for patients with multiple sclerosis", for which they developed practical devices to make life easier for MS patients. Easier preparation of meals, carrying of loads, intimate care and personalized jewellery are just a few of the ideas developed by students of industrial design, medicine, mechanical engineering, cognitive science, sociology and architecture. An important part of this project was interdisciplinary and trans-sectoral cooperation as shown by the students. Their ideas and devices will be presented at this exhibition.
 
The project was coordinated by the Vice-Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana (UL ALUO), Assoc. Prof. Barbara Predan, and supervised by Assoc. Prof. Lidija Pritržnik and Prof. Jure Miklavc (both also from UL ALUO). The project also involved the 'Get to Know Multiple Sclerosis' association and the pharmaceutical company Roche.
 
While the presented products and services are still at the concept stage and not yet ready for sale on the market, all the participants wish for the project to continue and that these solutions will one day contribute to inclusive designs that can benefit everyone, not only people affected by multiple sclerosis.

A central exhibition of the Plečnik Year 2022 sheds light on Plečnik’s architectural oeuvre and unveils numerous innovative ideas and techniques, which this multifaceted artist used in his diverse fields of creative work. The exhibition offers an opportunity for a reflection on Plečnik’s ideas and an artistic view of them in the 21st century.

The exhibition, with which we are commemorating the 150th anniversary of the architect’s birth, presents Plečnik’s realised and unrealised projects, notes, sketches, plans, models, and sculptures. With selection of materials, it wants to map out Plečnik’s conceived space, created during a time of radical political changes, within the frame of three metaphors – metropolis, place, garden. 

Concepts that are, to a degree, connected with Vienna, Prague, and Ljubljana, but not fully. If we were to limit Plečnik’s work to the physical space of cities, we would miss his thought, which constantly interlaced all three experiences within his superlative architecture.
